The Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre is a fascinating region, stretching along Italy’s Mediterranean Coast between Sestri Levante in the north and La Spezia in the south. For many years cut off from the surrounding areas because of the rugged terrain, it is now one of Italy’s most popular regions, with excellent walking along the coastal paths and into the higher hinterland. Your base is the seaside village of Monterosso al Mar, nestling at the foot of cliffs around a rocky cove. Travel to and in the area is by train, with the added bonus of boat trips along the beautiful coastline.
